The Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has publicly apologized and taken full responsibility for the physical altercation that erupted in Parliament last night, describing the incident as “unacceptable.”
Speaking in the aftermath of the heated exchange at the Parliamentary committee this morning, Ahiafor acknowledged the significant public outcry over the chaotic scenes, stressing the need to restore confidence in the legislative body.
“The actions that unfolded last night have drawn significant reactions from the public. It is important to restore confidence,” he stated.
Ahiafor confirmed that one microphone was damaged beyond repair during the scuffle but has since been replaced. He reiterated that physical confrontations are strictly prohibited in Parliament and urged lawmakers to conduct themselves with decorum.
“We apologize to the Speaker and the general public. What happened last night was unacceptable, and we take full responsibility for it,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ahiafor called on all Members of Parliament to uphold the integrity of the house, emphasizing the need for respectful and honourable conduct.
