Four games into the current Serie A season, Roma has fired manager Daniele de Rossi.
Roma, who appointed De Rossi as Jose Mourinho’s replacement at the Stadio Olimpico in January, has lost three of its Serie A games this year and drawn three others. Last month, Roma suffered a home loss to Empoli.
After Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Genoa, Roma is now 16th in the Serie A rankings.
The decision was made in the team’s best advantage to quickly restart the intended course while the season is still young, according to a statement released by the club.
De Rossi had an excellent start to his Roma career. Roma had only one loss in his first 11 league games, collecting 26 of a potential 33 points. Roma moved up to sixth place in the table after that run.
Additionally, they advanced to the Europa League semifinals before being eliminated by Bayer Leverkusen, the Bundesliga winners.
They qualified for the Europa League this season again after placing sixth the previous year. This season, Roma’s schedule in Europe includes a trip to Tottenham on November 28.
This summer, Roma acquired German center-back Mats Hummels on a free transfer from Girona, the team that finished first in La Liga the previous season, and Artem Dovbyk from Girona.
Several exits have been made. Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham joined AC Milan on loan, former Manchester United center back Chris Smalling left for Saudi Pro League team Al-Fayha, and Romelu Lukau, who played for Roma on loan from Chelsea last season, joined Napoli.
In recent months, Leonardo Spinazzola (Napoli), Rui Patricio (Atalanta), and Andrea Belotti (Como) have also left.
The 41-year-old De Rossi played with Roma for 22 years, from 1997 to 2019, during which he made 616 appearances. He was also a member of Italy’s World Cup-winning team in 2006.
The Friedkin Group owns 95.97% of the team after their attempted purchase of Everton failed in July.
