Forbes: Ronaldo Remains The Highest-Paid Athlete

For the fourth time in his career, Cristiano Ronaldo has topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid athletes; Jon Rahm has risen to the second spot.

Following his transfer to the Saudi Arabian football team Al Nassr, Ronaldo topped the list once more the previous season.

The Portugal forward, 39, reportedly made $260 million (£205 million) in the previous year, up from $136 million (£108.7 million), according to business magazine Forbes.

The fierce rival of Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, is now third behind Rahm.

After switching to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Tour, the Spanish golfer raced up to second place and is said to have made $218 million (£172 million).

After joining the Saudi Pro League, football players Neymar and Karim Benzema have also broken into the top 10.

In addition to fellow basketball players LeBron James (fourth) and Stephen Curry (ninth) on the list, American football quarterback Lamar Jackson is ranked tenth. Giannis Antetokounmpo is ranked fifth.

The world’s ten highest paid athletes, according to Forbes, took home a record-breaking $1.38 billion (£1.06 billion) in total earnings during the previous 12 months, before taxes and agency fees.
