Jerry Ahmed Shaib explains Parliamentary brawl, apologizes to Ghanaian

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, has shed light on the events that led to the heated brawl at the Appointments Committee in Parliament yesterday.

Speaking to Bernard Avle on Citi FM this morning, he confirmed reports that the altercation stemmed from contrasting decisions between the Minority and Majority caucuses.

According to him, the Majority side pushed for the vetting of Hon. Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health-designate, and Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, at 10:00 PM after five nominees had already been vetted.

“It was 10:14 PM, and we were exhausted,” he explained.

Shaib also commended the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, for his leadership in de-escalating tensions during the chaotic proceedings.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank Mahama Ayariga… he taught us something we should all learn from,” he stated.

The MP concluded by apologizing to Ghanaians for the incident, expressing regret over the disruptions in Parliament.
