151 Ghanaians Brought Back From Libya

Through a joint effort between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Government of Ghana, a total of 151 Ghanaian nationals have been safely repatriated from Libya.

The initiative marks a significant step in providing assistance and support to Ghanaians who found themselves in challenging circumstances abroad.

The returning migrants arrived at Kotoka International Airport on Thursday, May 16, 2024, where they were received and welcomed. Among them were 146 men, 5 women, and 6 children, all of whom chose to voluntarily return from Libya via a charter flight.

The collaborative efforts between the IOM and the Ghanaian government aim to ensure the well-being and safe return of Ghanaians  facing difficulties overseas, reaffirming their commitment to supporting citizens in need.

IOM shared news of the development via a Facebook post.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Police Service were all commended by the organization for their contributions.

The post reads:

“Together with our partners, we will ensure the sustainable reintegration of these returnees into their communities,” it posted, adding that “This support is made possible thanks to the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA) funded by the European Union,”.
