The Ministry of Health has issued a press release refuting claims that three hospitals under the government’s Agenda 111 initiative have been completed and are currently operational. This follows recent remarks attributed to the Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Anti Adams, suggesting that the Twedie District Hospital (Ashanti Region), Koforidua District Hospital (Eastern Region), and Kpesiga District Hospital (Oti Region) had been commissioned for public use.
According to the statement signed by the Health Minister, a verification visit on 3 March 2025 revealed that while construction at these sites is near completion, none of the facilities is fully functional. The Ministry stressed that critical installations, medical equipment, and final checks remain pending before the hospitals can open their doors to the public.
The Agenda 111 project, valued at approximately GH¢1.589 billion, was launched to bolster healthcare infrastructure across the country. Of this amount, GH¢1.3 billion was anticipated from a syndicated facility with local banks, with the remainder coming from government coffers.
In the press release, the Health Minister assured Ghanaians that the Twedie, Koforidua, and Kpesiga hospitals are “very close to completion,” and emphasized that ensuring quality construction and adequate staffing is the final hurdle. The Ministry pledged to provide regular updates and urged the public to disregard premature claims of full operational status until the final stages are completed.
