348 KNUST Students Awarded Scholarships

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has awarded 348 deserving students with scholarships from the Hulede Foundation for 2024.

This raises the total number of students who have profited from the program to 712 since its establishment in 2021.

The recipient students’ tuition is paid for by the scholarship.

Beneficiaries of the program are encouraged to contribute back to the community by completing 40 hours of community service each year, which will be approved by a supervising body.

This year, the foundation gave twenty of the recipients who had demonstrated excellence in community service brand-new laptops.

At a session with scholarship recipients, KNUST ‘s Director of Student Affairs, Theodora Oduro, encouraged students to study hard and become useful citizens.

She thanked the foundation for supporting brilliant, needy students and urged recipients to show gratitude by excelling academically.

According to Patrick Hulede, Co-Founder and Board Member of the Foundation, his two sons Patrick and John founded the organization in memory of their late father, who was also the first Manager and Founder of the University Printing Press (UPK).

According to Mr. Hulede, the charity has previously helped a number of senior high schools as well as numerous basic schools in the Kumasi metropolitan area.

He went on to say that the foundation’s scholarship program at KNUST looks for bright students who were actually impoverished in order to support them in their quest for a higher education.

He stated:

“The foundation’s mission is to create opportunities for the less privileged in society to better their lives,”

“We are not just interested in giving out financial support, but also assisting recipients through mentorship, career development and exposing them to other life opportunities.

“Our ultimate desire is to encourage recipients to develop and maintain the culture of giving back to society,”
