The 5G high-speed internet service will be introduced by the government today, November 1, 2024, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
The launch, which would raise the bar for internet speed and connectivity, is anticipated to be announced by President Akufo-Addo.
The Fifth Generation of Wireless Technology, or 5G service, offers quicker upload and download rates, more reliable connections, increased capacity, and greater internet speeds.
Like their predecessors, 3G, 4G, and 4G LTE networks, which have served the majority of mobile phones globally, 5G networks use the same radio frequencies. 5G networks, on the other hand, are the logical successor to 4G technology due to advancements in speed, latency, and capacity that result in faster upload and download times, stronger connectivity, and improved reliability. According to some, it is ten times faster than the 4G plus services.
In a previous interview with the media, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, disclosed that the government has teamed up with seven industry participants to create shared infrastructure for 5G services, with the goal of providing high-speed, reasonably priced mobile broadband services throughout Ghana.
“The 5G service is anticipated to bring many benefits to Ghanaians, including faster data speeds, lower latency, and increased connectivity,” she said during a Meet-the-Press appearance earlier this year. This will make it possible for citizens to more effectively and efficiently use digital services, such as financial, educational, and healthcare services.
The Next Gen InfraCo NGIC, a new shared infrastructure company that the government and seven other companies are promoting, has been granted a 5G license by the government. The government claims that the goal of this new shared infrastructure is to provide Ghana with reasonably priced 5G mobile broadband services.
Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, AT Ghana, and Telecel Ghana are among the partners.
