Ex-MASLOC CEO Jailed 10 Years in Prison for Financial Loss
Former MASLOC CEO Sedinam Tamakloe and former Chief Operating Officer Daniel Axim have been handed prison sentences of 10 years with hard labor and 5 years with hard labor, respectively.
They were convicted on 78 counts including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and public procurement law violations.
Tamakloe, tried in absentia after absconding for medical reasons, and Axim, who testified in person without calling witnesses, were found guilty of misappropriating funds allocated for MASLOC activities from 2013 to 2016. They withdrew funds, demanded refunds with exorbitant interest rates, and misused funds earmarked for public projects.
Among their misdeeds, they withdrew funds for a loan and demanded a steep interest rate, misused funds intended for a sensitization exercise, and misappropriated funds for victims of a fire incident. Additionally, they were involved in overpricing vehicle purchases and procurement of Samsung phones, causing further financial loss to the state.
Their actions highlight a gross abuse of power and financial misconduct that undermined the integrity of MASLOC and defrauded the public trust.
Sedinam Tamakloe, the former CEO of MASLOC, once held a position of significant influence in Ghanaian finance. However, her tenure was marred by corruption allegations and subsequent legal proceedings. Despite any achievements she may have had in her professional career, her legacy is now overshadowed by the controversy surrounding her actions while in office.
