Israel Retaliates with Attack on Iran

Israel has struck back at Iran, causing explosions and closing airspace around Isfahan.

Pictures reveal smoke billowing into the sky and flames engulfing targeted sites.

Isfahan houses a significant military airbase for Iran, although it’s unclear if the strike targeted its nuclear program.

Iranian state media reported that the alleged attacks didn’t cause significant damage to important facilities near the city, according to state-sanctioned media.

A loud blast heard near Isfahan was actually Iranian battery defense systems firing at a “suspicious object,” a top commander clarified.

Iranian state media confirmed that the country’s air defense systems were activated and fired on early Friday morning in several provinces. However, they didn’t specify which ones or the cause of the activation.

Hossein Dalirian, a spokesperson for Iran’s civilian space program, mentioned on X (formerly known as Twitter) that several small drones had been shot down. People in the area reported hearing explosions and seeing the Iranian defense systems in action.

Although a US official told ABC News that the strikes came from Israel, Israel has not officially confirmed this, and they declined to comment. Commercial flights around western Iran were diverted from their routes early on Friday morning. Iranian news agency Fars claimed it was due to explosions heard over Isfahan.
