Akufo-Addo’s Driver Enters NPP Parliamentary Contest

A driver for President Akufo-Addo, Joseph Addo, has thrown his hat into the ring for the La Dedekotopon parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The election is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Addo, after successfully passing the screening process, received approval from the Greater Accra Elections Committee to contest. His candidacy marks a significant development in the race for the constituency’s parliamentary seat. Addo’s decision to vie for the position adds an interesting dimension to the electoral landscape and underscores the growing interest and diversity of the candidates in the NPP ‘s parliamentary primaries this year.

Mr. Addo is confident in his ability to recapture the seat, which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won in 2020. He believes he has contributed significantly to the development of the constituency and positively impacted many lives.

“I was born and bred here in La, I have lived all my life here so I am not new in this constituency. I have helped the youth in this area get jobs and employment in government agencies.

“Recently when the party needed an office space after the destruction of the old office, I personally worked to get a new one,”.

The primary election was held when Dr. Gerald Joseph Tetteh, the Now’s chosen candidate, resigned. Mr. Addo is a competitor in the race, having driven the President for more than 20 years.

Solomon Kotey Niikio, the municipal chief executive, has concurrently submitted his candidacy. In the 2020 election, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah of the NDC defeated the NPP for the La Dedekotopon seat.
