Police Oppose To Dumsor Protest Near Jubilee House
The #DumsorMustStop protest leadership, which consists of Yvonne Nelson, Selorm Dramani Dzramado, and Henry Osei Akoto, has received a request from the Accra Regional Police Command to think about moving the protest site and changing the date of the next rally, which is set for Saturday, May 25, 2024.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Regional Police Headquarters, there was a meeting where the topics of notification of the public demonstration and its possible effect on public order and safety were discussed.
The Revolution Square location that was first suggested caused the Police Command to voice concerns because of its close proximity to the government seat, Jubilee House, which is marked as a security zone.
Considering the possible threats to public safety, security, and order, the Command suggested moving the demonstration to Independence Square.
The Command also expressed concerns about the planned conclusion of the protest at midnight on December 12.
They warned that holding the protest at that time might affect security and could cause tensions to rise, possibly resulting in violence.
So, they suggested that the organizers pick a different time.
The Accra Regional Police Command emphasized their dedication to upholding law and order while supporting peaceful protests as allowed by the Ghana Police Service.
The organizers of the protest haven’t replied to the Police Command’s request to change the venue and time yet.
