Missing 12-Year-Old Found Dead in Korle Lagoon After Rainstorm

At the Korle Lagoon, the family of a 12-year-old boy who was reported missing after the heavy rains in Accra on Monday, May 15, is in deep shock and grief following the discovery of his death.  The torrential downpour had caused severe flooding and traffic chaos across the city, leading to numerous incidents and distress.

Two days after the rainstorms, the body of the young teenager was tragically found in the Korle Lagoon. The devastating news has left the family and the community in mourning as they come to terms with the loss of the boy amid the aftermath of the city’s flooding.

According to a police report, it is believed that the boy tried to jump across a gutter but lost his footing and fell in. The rushing water was too powerful for him to escape, carrying him from the smaller gutter into a larger one, ultimately washing him into the Korle Lagoon.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers posed by the heavy rains and flooding in Accra. The force of the water made it impossible for the boy to get to safety, leading to the heartbreaking outcome discovered two days later.

The Kotobabi police command arrived at the scene to retrieve the decomposing body.

The body has been taken to the mortuary, and investigations have begun to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
