Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Director of Electoral Services, has declared that his organization has no animosity toward the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He claims that the political party is a significant participant in Ghana’s elections and will voice concerns as needed if it thinks there are issues with particular electoral procedures and processes.
Speaking on JoyNews Pulse on May 24, he clarified that the NDC moves on from the past and moves forward when the EC addresses any issues brought up.
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe emphasized that most of the complaints were not personal jabs at any EC member, and that this was a typical occurrence for political parties.
He stated:
“I want to put on record that the Electoral Commission and the NDC, we are not enemies. When you come and meet some of them, we all attended the same schools and we are nice…
“Normally, they will come and make the allegations and we will come and refute them. Once we refute them, it ends the case. I believe some of them maybe, they don’t understand how the system works, that is why they will make those allegations but we are not enemies with them,”
A fierce dispute has been raging between the NDC and the EC for weeks now over the political party’s allegations that many Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) devices were stolen from the Commission’s headquarters.
After hesitantly acknowledging that some equipment was gone, the EC first refuted the accusations.
But the Commission promised that this would not have any bearing whatsoever on the next elections.
