Claims of a deal involving Tullow Oil, Kosmos, GNPC, and Petro SA that were made by social media commentator Kevin Taylor have been denied by the Energy Ministry.
Mr. Taylor said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the minister of energy, were responsible for stealing $150 million from this transaction.
The Ministry, however, has flatly denied these allegations, calling them “spurious and unfounded.”
In response to these charges, Kofi Abrefa Afena, the minister’s press assistant, made it clear in a statement that the Energy Ministry is not in charge of signing and approving contracts in the upstream petroleum industry.
Mr. Afena made it clear that the Ministry is not in charge of approving the aforementioned contract.
He called on the people to laugh at these lies and to treat them with contempt.
The Commuications aide also made a suggestion that Dr. Prempeh will file a lawsuit to repair the harm that Taylor’s accusations had done to his reputation.
“On the plain reputational onslaught, the said Kevin Taylor mounts on Dr Prempeh, specifically impugning criminality on him; the Minister’s legal team will resort to the necessary legal remedy in due course.”
