Barcelona Confirms Departure Of Marco Alonso On A Free Transfer

Marcos Alonso, a left-back, has formally declared his departure from Barcelona. His contract is about to expire, so he is leaving the team.

After joining Camp Nou on a free transfer from Chelsea in September 2022, Alonso played in nearly 50 games and scored three goals.

The Spaniard added a La Liga championship in 2022–2023 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2023 to his trophy collection. He had already won the Premier League, four FA Cups, the Champions League, and the Europa League with Chelsea.

Barca’s statement on the defender read:

“Marcos Alonso is not to continue with FC Barcelona, as the Spanish defender’s contract ends on June 30,”

“FC Barcelona would like to place on record their appreciation for his commitment and dedication, and wish him all the best and every success in the future.

“The left back leaves FC Barcelona after two seasons wearing blaugrana. He arrived from Chelsea in 2022 and played 45 games, scoring three goals.”

Though there are rumors that the 33-year-old may play in La Liga going forward, Alonso’s next step in his career is still unknown. Atletico Madrid is frequently mentioned as a possible suitor.

The existing agreement between Sergi Roberto and La Blaugrana expires on June 30th, although new negotiations are supposedly underway.

The Spaniard, who has played for Barcelona for more than ten years, is reportedly considering his alternatives even though the club has given him a deadline for a fresh offer.

A number of organizations, including Sevilla, Valencia, and Girona, have expressed interest in him.
