The Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) of TUC, NIA Division has requested the removal of Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah as Executive Secretary of the NIA.
The union’s petition to authorities cites issues with his management, including unfair labor practices, such as staff in acting roles without formal letters and unpaid acting allowances, violating labor laws and policies.
The petition also accused Prof. Attafuah of unfair dismissals, such as Samuel Duah, a former Assistant Registration Officer, who was allegedly dismissed for accepting a gift despite being cleared by the Police CID.
Another dismissal mentioned was Martin Akowuah, a District Registration Officer, allegedly fired for arriving at work too early. Financial misconduct was also alleged, with the NIA failing to remit SSNIT contributions for 40 months, resulting in penalties.
The union criticized the lack of policy frameworks and by-laws at the NIA, leading to high staff turnover and inefficiencies.
Additionally, the petition claimed that nominations are affected more by favoritism than by meritocracy, and it accused administrative injustice and selective hiring practices.
Another major weakness in Prof. Attafuah’s leadership was that he failed to come up with creative ways to update operating procedures and enhance service delivery.
Consequently, in order to preserve professionalism, respect the rule of law, and safeguard the NIA’s integrity, the group demanded that Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah be removed from his position immediately.
They conveyed their expectation that the appropriate authorities would act swiftly and decisively to address the issues brought up in their petition.
To date, there has been no response from the NIA’s Executive Secretary or his representatives on these accusations.
