Kumasi Public Toilets Increase Fees By 25%

A twenty-five percent increase in fees has been announced for the use of public restrooms and urinals in the Kumasi metropolis by the Kumasi Sanitation Awareness Association in the Ashanti Region.

Facilities that used toilet rolls formerly charged GH¢1.50; this fee has been increased to GH¢2. Facilities that use toilet paper now pay GH¢1.50 instead of GH¢1.30.

In an interview with Class FM, Owusu Takyi, the Association’s chairman, stated that the fee increase is a result of the present rise in the cost of products and services.

He mentioned that the cost of moving the facilities has increased from GH¢800 to GH¢1,200, and there have also been notable increases in maintenance, energy, and water expenses.

Mr. Takyi emphasized that the fee increase was required to make sure the Association could keep running and give its clients greater services.

He claimed that although users had initially objected to the price increase, they had subsequently come to understand that the higher fees were necessary to keep the business running and maintain the level of service.
