President Akufo-Addo Commissions UHAS Phase II Expansion Project

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned the Phase II expansion of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), emphasizing its importance for Ghana’s healthcare sector.

He recalled the sod-cutting for Phase II on September 10, 2021, and acknowledged the need for more infrastructure at UHAS. Under his directive, the Education and Finance Ministers, along with UHAS management and former Vice Chancellor Professor John Owusu Gyapong, secured $60 million in funding from the Chinese Government.

The President thanked the People’s Republic of China for their support and strengthening bilateral relations. He also acknowledged outgoing Chinese Ambassador Lu Kun, his predecessor the late Ambassador Sun Bahong, the contractors Nantong Sijian Construction Group, and former Ghanaian Ambassador to China Edward Boateng.

The completion of Phase II will greatly enhance UHAS’s ability to train more health professionals, addressing Ghana’s growing healthcare needs and demand for a skilled workforce. The expansion will provide UHAS with additional facilities and resources for comprehensive education and practical training, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for healthcare challenges.

The new facilities will support cutting-edge research and innovation, helping scientists develop locally relevant health solutions and establishing Ghana as a leader in African health research.

To mark the occasion, President Akufo-Addo donated ten desktop computers and ten laptops to UHAS, enhancing the university’s educational capacity. He also thanked outgoing University Council Chairperson, former Supreme Court Justice Jones Victor Mawulorm Dotse, for his leadership and contributions, wishing him success in future endeavors.

The Phase II expansion is a significant milestone in UHAS’s growth as a premier institution for health education and research in Ghana and beyond.
