Togbe Afede Endorses NDC’s Proposed 24-hour Economy Policy

The NDC flagbearer John Mahama has received praise from the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, for his planned 24-hour economic strategy and his fervor to revitalize the nation’s economy.

When applied to the manufacturing sector, he said the former president’s 24-hour economic policy will be a magic bullet for revitalizing Ghana’s faltering economy, generating employment, and boosting export revenue.

On the first day of the NDC’s campaign trip of the Volta Region, Togbe Afede was speaking when Mr. Mahama led a delegation to pay him a courtesy call in Ho.

He said that since manufacturing machinery is built to work continuously to maximize profit, it must be operated as such.

In order to capitalize on the African Continental Free commerce Area Agreement (AfCFTA), which aims to encourage intra-African commerce, he claimed that Ghana will be able to increase its manufacturing capacity with the support of the 24-hour Economy Policy.

He stated:

“Let me congratulate you, first of all on your 24-hour economy policy. As someone who believes in hard work, I believe this is what we need. It is obvious that the application of this policy in the manufacturing sector can indeed be a game changer”

“It has been established that we are far behind those countries currently in the pilot phase as far as export to our counterparts are concerned.

“I am aware that Nigeria actually launched an ambitious $50 billion program to expand production and, therefore, export to Africa, taking advantage of AfCFTA.

“So I think your policy is a sure way of making us ready to also export to other African countries and of course by so doing expand employment. The factory which just runs for 8 hours, one shift, decides to do 3 shifts”,

He went on to say that the suggested 24-hour policy would boost competitiveness and lower production costs, “so I think it is a great policy and it deserves all of our support.”

Since the youth own the future, the esteemed traditional ruler also applauded the NDC Flagbearer’s proposal to include them in decision-making at all levels of government.

Togbe Afede also congratulated Mr. Mahama on his exoneration in the Airbus crisis and supports his plan to reassess the payment of ex-gratia to Article 17 officeholders.
