Otumfuo Removes Three Chiefs For Involvement In Illegal Mining

In a stunning turn of events, the Gyaasihene, Akyeamehene, and Baamuhene of Sabronum have been stripped of their titles and duties by Otumfuo Osei Tutu Ii, the Asantehene.

On August 26, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace, the Asanteman Council met and made the decision.

The group’s engagement in illicit mining, sometimes referred to as “galamsey,” which has afflicted the area and been widely denounced, is the direct cause of the destooling.

The Asantehene’s audacious action makes it clear that the Asante kingdom will not put up with such actions, which seriously endanger both the environment and the welfare of its people.

Galamsey has been a recurring issue in the area, drawing criticism for the alleged cooperation or inaction of numerous chiefs and community leaders.

There has been pressure on the Asanteman Council to act decisively against people who engage in this conduct.

Kofi Asante, a new Sabronum Manhene, has been chosen and nominated to take over after the destoolment.

With this development, Sabronum enters a new phase as it attempts to overcome the difficulties caused by Galamsey.

Reactions to Otumfuo Asantehene’s decision to destool have been divided; some have praised it as a daring step against galamsey, while others have voiced worries about the possible ramifications for the impacted people and their families.
