Mortuaries To Be Closed By Sep 26 As Workers Strike

Beginning on Thursday, September 26, 2024, all mortuaries in Ghana will close, according to a statement released by the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG).

Due to unresolved difficulties with their employer, the workers have announced an indefinite strike, claiming the company’s refusal to comply with their demands.

The provision of sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE) and the settlement of salary arrears going back to 2020 are among the demands.

Additional demands include the payment of the COVID-19 bonus that the President promised mortuary workers and the budgetary approval for the hiring of 500 more staff.

The government’ alleged willful inaction, according to the workers, is the reason behind the walkout.

MOWAG has called for immediate action in response to the increasing prevalence of deaths among mortuary workers as a result of unfavorable working conditions. In their notification,

MOWAG stated unequivocally that until their demands are met, there would be no more hearings or conversations.

Additionally, they told everyone to stay at home and close their mortuaries, letting everyone know that they would be closing.

If the strikers’ demands are not fulfilled by the deadline, mortuary services around the nation are predicted to be significantly impacted.
