Man Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver On Kanda Highway

On Tuesday, October 8, a driver of a Toyota V8 fled the scene after hitting a pedestrian tragically on the Kanda Highway in Accra.

Around 8:30 p.m., the collision happened, greatly causing traffic congestion.

Following the collision, the vehicle reportedly halted briefly before speeding off and abandoning the victim behind, according to eyewitness Shaibu Danjuma.

At the scene, the pedestrian—who is still unidentified—was declared dead.

Police arrived shortly after the accident, and the victim’s body was brought to an unidentified mortuary for further examination and identification. Search efforts are underway to find the driver who hit and fled.

The lack of lamps on that section of the highway has led to poor visibility, which has caused a high number of accidents, which has alarmed the locals.

In order to prevent these kinds of incidents, locals and other road users have frequently urged for better lighting and road safety measures. The most recent incident has reignited conversations about the necessity of taking immediate action.
