20 Galamseyers Grabbed In New Abirem, Equipment Confiscated

At New Abirem in the Eastern Region, twenty alleged illegal miners were taken into custody by an anti-galamsey task group comprised of the Kotoku Environmental taskforce.

In the Birim North District, 18 Ghanaians and 2 Chinese illegal miners were taken into custody for their illicit mining activities.

At mining locations at Abirem Roman Missionary House Down, the miners were taken into custody.

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Kotoku Environmental Task Force carried out a special operation to recover two excavators, mining equipment, and two pumping machines.

The task force is seen attempting to stop the illegal miners from stopping them from bringing that equipment to the location, according to an amateur video showing Birem North DCE Raymond Nana Damptey.

Right now, the suspects are being held by the police.
