Camo: Ghana Armed Forces To Crack Down On Citizens Abusing Military Uniform Colors

A severe warning has been sent out by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to people and groups who are using military-pattern uniforms and equipment without authorization.

In a press release dated Monday, October 14, and bearing the signature of Eric Aggrey Quarshie, Director of Public Affairs, the GAF voiced concerns regarding the increasing prevalence of non-military individuals and private security personnel dressing in military garb during public protests and other events, such as illicit mining operations.

The Ghanaian Army Forces (GAF) report that at several public demonstrations, including those in Accra and Kumasi, protesters and people claiming to be security guards for public figures have been seen wearing military camouflage and other military-style clothing, which is considered an illegal use of military-pattern uniforms.

This practice, which has also been noted during anti-illegal mining (galamsey) operations, has sparked fears of impersonation and potential threats to public safety.

Further underlining in the GAF press release was the violation of National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which forbids civilians from donning military uniforms, gear, or accessories.

The GAF issued a warning that this legal infraction would encourage criminal activity since people posing as military members might use their appearance to commit crimes.

Given these worries, GAF has promised to take strong measures against people who persist in breaking these rules.

When someone is seen donning an unapproved military uniform, the Armed Forces will apprehend them and make sure they face the full weight of the law.

Law enforcement agencies have also been urged by the public to report any suspicious activity regarding the usage of military outfits.

The press release concluded with a reassurance from the Ghana Armed Forces of its commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining the territorial integrity of Ghana.

As the country prepares for the 2024 general elections, GAF stressed the importance of upholding law and order, urging all citizens to play their part in ensuring peace and security.
