Tolon Chief, who proclaimed his support for Bawumia and showered insults on National Democratic Congress (NDC) voters, was ambushed by unknown gunmen at his home.
On Wednesday night, unknown individuals armed with rifles and cutlasses stormed the home of the Gburmani Chief in Gurugu in Tamale, Northern Region.
There was one injured person among the approximately eight armed men.
JoyNews visited the victim, only known as Mashud, on Thursday and discovered that she had received treatment and been released.
He claimed in an interview that the armed men had come to attack the Chief because they knew he was in Yendi for a meeting of the Dagbon Traditional Council.
According to him, a confrontation ensued when he attempted to question their identity and mission.
“One of them hit my head with a cutlass. They already knew the Chief was going to Yendi for a meeting. They thought the Chief had returned to pass the night here, “Mashud claimed.
The event occurs at a time when tensions at Gburmani in Tolon have been higher since Monday due to a political remark made by the community’s chief, Naa Mohammed Abdulai.
The Chief declared his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP at a rally hosted at his palace by Habib Iddrisu, the ruling party’s parliamentarian candidate. He also invoked the spirits of the land to deal with any person who would vote for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party and its candidates.
The Chief charged that previous NDC administrations had purposefully ignored the community.
The NDC has strongly denounced the Chief’s remarks.
At their Tuesday meeting, the party decided to warn the Gburma Dana by sending a petition to the Dagbon Traditional Council and the Ya Naa.
The Chief has been warned by the party to avoid becoming involved in partisan politics or else he will be viewed and dealt with as a political adversary.
Nonetheless, the party has disassociated itself from the incident and denounced the house raid.
Ku’ga Naa Abdulai, a senior member of the Dagbon Traditional Council, has denounced the Gburma Dana’s remarks and advised all traditional authorities to refrain from interfering in partisan politics.
The Ku’ga Naa warned chiefs to establish an even playing field for their operations by welcoming and treating all parties equally and impartiallyin their respective jurisdictions.
