Deteriorating Prempeh I Airport Roundabout In Kumasi Causing Vehicle Damages

Due to its deteriorating state, the Prempeh I Airport Roundabout, a vital transportation hub in Greater Kumasi, Ashanti Region, has become a major cause of annoyance for commuters and vehicles.

This crucial roundabout, which connects several important highways, is quickly deteriorating, increasing traffic congestion, vehicle damage, and safety hazards.

Concerns have been raised by drivers regarding the intersection’s poor condition, which includes numerous huge potholes and fractured surfaces that make navigation risky and challenging.

The roundabout has once again deteriorated after an earlier attempt at repair in response to a Channel One News report.

Several drivers expressed their annoyance in interviews with Channel One News, denouncing famous individuals and municipal authorities for failing to perform routine road maintenance, which has led to the current state of deterioration.

“Our main challenge is the potholes—you can see it for yourself,” said driver Godfred Appiah. “Traffic is too high, and this is now an international airport area. The government should do something about it so we can move freely.”

Another driver, Alhaji Osman, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the neglect despite the high-profile nature of the road. “All the leaders in this town pass through here, but they have all turned a blind eye to the situation. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is one of the prominent people who use this stretch, but look at the road—it’s in a terrible state,” he said.

Adding to the concerns, Seidu Ibrahim, another driver, recounted a recent accident involving a tricycle and a truck, caused by navigating around potholes. “We’re pleading with the authorities to fix it,” he said, expressing the shared frustration of those who rely on the roundabout daily.
