Accra has seen the launch of a new ride-hailing service designed locally with a traditional flair to assist commuters in locating commercial taxis.
By facilitating communication between drivers and riders without interfering with the core functions of the local transportation system, the GoRide app gives the ride-finding process a contemporary twist.
The commission fee is 10 percent, which is significantly less than the typical 20 percent for comparable apps.
The app was introduced on Wednesday at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) conference hall by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the platform is a ground-breaking ride-hailing app that was created through a calculated public-private partnership with the goal of improving the nation’s transportation system.
In addition to embodying the government’s commitment to using technology for equitable development, Dr. Bawumia said GoRide was a symbol of empowerment, innovation, and local pride. It made sure that drivers prospered in the digital economy, paving the way for a better future for all Ghanaians.
Commissions
According to the vice president, many local drivers encountered significant difficulties, especially because of the hefty commission fees that the ride-hailing platforms that are now in use impose.
He went on to say that this put pressure on their incomes and jeopardized their livelihoods and their families’ financial security.
In this sense, Dr. Bawumia stated that the app’s release represented a critical turning point in the nation’s progress toward greater prosperity and equity.
“Today, we put an end to that struggle. GoRide is not just another app; it represents a bold commitment to upgrade the trade of our local drivers, particularly those associated with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
“With a competitive commission rate of just 10 percent, our drivers are empowered to retain more of their hard-earned money, allowing them to improve their financial stability and support their families. This is about restoring dignity to our drivers and ensuring that they thrive,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

The government plans to expand its scope in the coming months, with plans to eventually cover all regions of Ghana. GoRide’s economic impact is far-reaching, creating jobs in sectors such as vehicle maintenance, banking, insurance, and customer support.
The initiative is supported by the Ghana Card, Digital Address System, Mobile Money Interoperability, and Ghana.Gov is committed to conserving foreign exchange, fostering local wealth creation, and enhancing the national economy.
