The Cape Coast District Court One has placed Eric Ato Appiah Mends, a 45-year-old Acting Gyaasehene of the Nkusukum Traditional Area in the Mfantseman Municipality, under police detention on remand.

On Friday, October 25, during the Odambia Festival, the Gyaasehene, also known by his stool name Nana Beeyin II, was involved in a terrible incident where he shot and killed 52-year-old Kwesi Melchoir after an altercation.

According to Citi News, the altercation between the two men might have been caused by a chieftaincy rivalry. The court, which was presided over by Her Worship Anita Sheila Crabb, formally charged the suspect with murder during the hearings.

Mends is due back in court on November 11, 2024, after being placed on remand in custody.
