Police Probe Nima Commander After Allegations Of Endorsing NDC
The Nima District Police Commander, ASP Asong Ayrakwa, is being investigated by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for allegedly endorsing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a meeting in the Ayawaso East constituency.
In a widely shared social media video, ASP Ayrakwa is allegedly seen yelling, “We will win,” which some have linked to the NDC’s campaign slogan, casting doubt on his objectivity.
Party representatives reportedly rejected the allegations against ASP Ayrakwa during a meeting between the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and representatives from the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso East and North constituencies, recommending that the issue be handled cautiously.
Both parties urged police leadership to avoid rushing to conclusions and to ensure that the investigation is thorough and impartial.
The Constituency Chairman of the NDC in Ayawaso East, Mohammed Ramne, stated: “This district commander has been working so hard to ensure peace in Nima, and for someone to doctor a video saying that the district commander is claiming that the NDC will win is wrong. In fact, God will punish the person.”
“The comment ‘we will win’ doesn’t mean the NDC will win or the NPP will win. Peace will win; we should use our wisdom,” a representative of the NPP stated.
DCOP Arhin Kwasi Annor, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, said that although the command has noted the NDC and NPP’s petition, it will carry out its own inquiry.
“You are saying that he was talking about peace and that peace should win. That is your side. We are also going to conduct our own investigations,” he stated.
