Ghanaians have received assurances from John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program will continue under his leadership with planned funds to guarantee its continuation.
On Monday, November 11, Mahama addressed questions about his position on Free SHS in a talk to Christian leaders in Kumasi. He dismissed rumors that he plans to repeal the policy as “political gimmicks” meant to mislead the public.
Although the initiative has increased educational access, he underlined that sustained funding is necessary to maintain and improve its quality.
“Free SHS is here to stay. We must prioritize its funding to improve quality and ensure continuity,” Mahama stated.
Mahama also emphasized the value of high-quality education, claiming that Ghanaian pupils’ academic performance will be enhanced by a well-funded program.
He promised Ghanaians that Free SHS will be strengthened to meet the demands of future generations and preserved under his direction.
