Bawku Conflict Claims Another Life, Raising Death Toll To 26
Violence has erupted once more in Bawku, bringing the total number of fatalities since the conflict’s resurgence in late October 2024 to 26.
Armed organizations continue to launch attacks that have escalated tensions in the region in spite of a rigorous curfew that runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is intended to stop the violence.
Due to locals’ continued fear of more violence, the unrest has caused several schools to close and business operations to be hampered.
Violent altercations in the Daduri area of Bawku on Tuesday, November 12, claimed two lives and injured numerous more.
The conflict escalated the security situation in the area by resulting in a gunfight that set two houses on fire.
Many locals are escaping the area in reaction. Recently, six busses carrying passengers from Bawku to Bolgatanga for safety were spotted with military escorts.
According to reports, the violence has intensified since rival leader Alhaji Seidu Abagre returned from exile, and recent traveler ambushes have heightened tensions.
