Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his pledge to lower mobile phone taxes so that Ghanaians may afford them.
During his tour of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Dr. Bawumia spoke to a sizable gathering and underlined the value of mobile phones as vital instruments for a digitally advanced country.
He explained that his decision to remove taxes on mobile phones was influenced by the fact that Ghana’s continuous digital transformation necessitates that residents have better access to them.
“One of the things I want to do as President, by the grace of God, is to remove taxes on mobile phones,”
“We will remove the taxes so that the cost of mobile phones in Ghana will be cheaper. With the work we are doing, the digitalization and the work we want to do with the youth, taxes on mobile phones ought to go, and I will take them off to make mobile phones cheaper and more affordable in Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia, who is recognized for having led Ghana’s digital revolution for the previous eight years, expressed his goal of making Ghana the digital center of Africa.
He revealed intentions to train one million young Ghanaians in digital skills as part of this endeavor, preparing them for opportunities in the global digital realm.
