SHS Students To Break On Thursday Ahead Of Election 2024
In order to allow all employees and eligible students to exercise their right to vote on December 7, 2024, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has ordered all Senior High Schools (SHSs) to close on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
In particular, second cycle school heads were tasked with following the directive.
“As the nation prepares to vote in the upcoming general election, we hereby direct schools to close on Thursday, December 5, 2024 to allow staff and eligible students to exercise their right to vote on December 7.
“Regional Directors are instructed to ensure that heads of second cycle schools strictly adhere to this directive, allowing staff and eligible students to travel to their respective constituencies to cast their votes,” a circular signed by a Deputy Director-General of the GES, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, said.
In addition to being copied to the Director-General, GES-HQ, Accra, and the Chairman, GES Council, Accra, it was addressed to all regional directors of education.
Saturday, December 7, 2024, is the date of the general election in 2024.
Since the nation’s return to constitutional governance in 1992, this election will be the ninth.
There will be a total of 12 contenders for the presidency. There are a few independent candidates and members of the minor parties running in addition to the two front-runners, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, who are vying for all 275 legislative seats.
