Bawku Conflict: Another Reported Dead, Raising The Death Toll To 33

A person named Atengani was killed during a shooting in the Mazema area of Bawku on Tuesday night, reportedly caught in a crossfire involving the military. This raises the total number of deaths in the conflict to 33 since it flared up again in October.

The region is under a strict 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. curfew as violence continues, with frequent shootings since the conflict reignited in late October 2024. Tensions remain high as residents and security forces grapple with the unrest.

The conflict is said to have escalated after the return of rival leader Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile, coupled with recent ambushes on travelers that have heightened tensions in the region.
