Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) vice presidential candidate, gave $7,500 on Thursday to help pay for the surgery of Patnam Kantam, a three-year-old kid with a heart hole.
Additionally, Prof. Opoku Agyemang gave Kantam’s parents GHC 5,000 in cash to help with his post-surgery care.
Following a diagnosis of a heart hole, the three-year-old kid was admitted to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s National Cardiothoracic Centre.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang saved the little boy’s family by paying the necessary amount for the surgery when the family was having trouble raising the funds.
She also conveyed her appreciation to the Center’s employees for their professionalism and commitment to their work.
She said “I just want to express my appreciation for the care you have given him and you give to so many others in different circumstances. I feel rather privileged that it has been possible for us to come and give the support that is necessary.”
Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, the Director of the National Cardiothoracic Center at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, commended Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for not only covering the surgery’s expenses but also physically visiting the Center.
The young boy will soon be booked for surgery to repair the hole in his heart, Dr. Entsua-Mensah assured them.
The patient’s father, Mr. Abdul Majeed Kantam, asked for God’s blessings on her life and conveyed his sincere thanks to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for the help she has provided for his son.
