In the 2024 parliamentary elections, National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu beat incumbent Henry Quartey, who was representing Ayawaso Central as a Member of Parliament.
Tubazu won with 29,755 votes, while Quartey, who stood for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 23,345 votes.
A total of 163 votes were cast for National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate Charles Kwame Adams. 287 of the 53,550 votes cast were declared invalid.
The NDC has flipped two parliamentary seats that were formerly controlled by the NPP in Mpohor and Sekondi, and its success in Ayawaso Central adds to its noteworthy accomplishments in other constituencies.
Andrew Egyapa Mercer was overthrown by NDC candidate Blay Nyameke Armah in Sekondi. Mercer received 11,084 votes (42.94%), while Armah received 14,558 votes (56.40%). In Sekondi, 25,813 votes were cast, and 171 of those votes were returned.
These wins strengthen the NDC’s parliamentary presence in the 2024 elections by demonstrating its increasing traction in important constituencies.
