Shooting Incident claims Leaves One Dead In Awutu Senya East

One person has been killed and two others injured in a shooting incident that targeted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate’s car in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

According to reports, the unfortunate incident happened close to the candidate’s home, causing panic in the neighborhood and momentarily interfering with the election process.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident started as a contentious argument amongst party members before turning violent. Two people were wounded when gunmen opened fire on the candidate’s car. For immediate medical attention, the patients were sent to a local hospital.

One individual was hurt in a different gunshot incident at Odupongpehe Zion Park earlier in the day that had nothing to do with politics. The brawl happened close to a voting station and was connected to a chieftaincy feud. According to reports, the shooting occurred after the suspect and another person got into a fight. Instead of striking the intended target, the gunshot struck an innocent bystander.

At the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, the victim of the Zion Park incident is undergoing care.

Arrests

Four people have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in relation to the shooting incident that occurred on the NDC Parliamentary Candidate’s vehicle at the NDC’s Iron City office in Kasoa, which is also located within the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

The accused, Issaka Mashual, Hakeem Bawa, Kwabena Essah, and Awudu Yakubum, are presently being held and cooperating with the investigations. During the raid, 69 rounds of ammunition and one AK-47 weapon were recovered.

In this instance, the deceased’s body has been transferred to the morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the injured victim is being treated.

The public has been reassured by the Ghana Police Service that all occurrences are being thoroughly investigated and that precautions are being taken to keep the calm and orderly during the current elections.
