Fake Military Officer Arrested In Nkwanta, Receives 15-Month Jail Sentence
A man who was caught impersonating as a military officer in Nkwanta South was given a 15-month prison sentence for fraud and impersonation.
Francis Akwasi, the accused, was caught at Abrewankor Junction, a farming hamlet in Nkwanta South, after he defrauded Godfred Yindan, a local farmer, of GH¢15,000 in order to get him a job in the military.
Following police investigations that exposed the depth of Akwasi’s deceit, the Nkwanta Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Wellington Arhin, rendered the decision.
Seidu Kumi, an officer in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), claims that Mr. Akwasi had been posing as a military official in order to win over unwary victims.
He assured Mr. Yindan that, for a charge, he could help him enlist in the military.
Mr. Akwasi, who regularly visited the community while wearing military uniforms, aroused suspicions by attempting to control the populace.
Community people became worried by his actions, which prompted an investigation and his eventual imprisonment.
Akwasi was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay back the GH¢15,000 he had taken from the victim after the court found him guilty of fraud and impersonation.
Godfred Yindan, the victim, said that Akwasi had pretended to be an Accra-based military officer and the brother-in-law of a community member.
