With effect from December 16, 2024, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch in the Agona West Constituency has expelled 280 members, including Cynthia Morrison, the current Member of Parliament (MP).
At a meeting of the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee on December 15, 2024, the decision was made unanimously.
The expelled members are prohibited from using any party flags or symbols, attending or taking part in any party meetings or events, holding any position within the party, or posing as party members for an indeterminate period of time.
This move comes after multiple party members complained that the expelled members had supported independent candidates in the most recent parliamentary election, joined or declared their support for other political parties, and stood as independent candidates.
The decision was communicated by Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the Constituency Chairman in a statement dated December 16, who emphasised that the party’s constitution mandates such actions to maintain discipline and unity within the party.
