On Friday, January 3, 2025, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will give his last State of the Nation Address to Parliament before the 8th Parliament is dissolved.
According to Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, the speech serves as the president’s last assessment of the country’s situation before he leaves office.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, the 4th Republic’s 8th Parliament will formally disband. The 9th Parliament will meet that same day at 11:00 PM in order to choose a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.
The Parliamentary Service said in a statement that the legislature will begin its next term at midnight with the swearing-in of the Speaker-elect and freshly elected Members of Parliament.
