Pesident Mahama sets up committee to plan National Education Forum

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organize the National Education Forum, fulfilling his pledge to advance discussions on Ghana’s education sector.

The committee, chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, has been given two weeks to submit its report and plan.

The committee includes esteemed academics and education stakeholders such as Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Samuel Awuku, Ph.D., and Professor Smile Dzisi. The remaining members are Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.

Committee’s Terms of Reference

The planning committee has been tasked with several key responsibilities, including:

Developing a theme and sub-themes to guide stakeholder engagement.

Identifying key stakeholders such as students, parents, teachers, researchers, development partners, and policymakers for inclusion in the discussions.

Proposing a venue and date for the forum.

Setting up a secretariat to document activities.

Providing a budget for the forum.

Drafting a national education policy framework and action plan based on the forum’s recommendations.

Additionally, the committee is expected to develop a comprehensive report detailing findings from the forum and propose an implementation plan within three weeks after its conclusion.

The appointment of the committee reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s education system by engaging key stakeholders in shaping policies that will address challenges and enhance learning outcomes.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the acting spokesperson to the president, signed the official statement announcing the committee’s formation.

The National Education Forum is expected to serve as a platform for discussing critical issues in the education sector and proposing long-term solutions to improve the quality and accessibility of education in Ghana.
