Dr. Nii Moi Thompson Named Chairman Of National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

Following discussions with the Council of State, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, a development economist, has been named Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

Former NDPC Director-General Dr. Thompson was instrumental in the creation of Ghana’s 40-Year Development Plan.

He oversaw Ghana’s technical delegations to the UN from 2014 to 2015, helping to shape the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and then assisting in their incorporation into the nation’s national development plan.

In his capacity as chairman, Dr. Thompson will collaborate closely with the government statistician, the governor of the Bank of Ghana, the minister of finance, and representatives from the sixteen regions to offer the president and parliament strategic recommendations for Ghana’s development strategies.

In a parallel move, Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to serve as the Financial Intelligence Center’s (FIC) acting CEO while the Board is reorganized.

From 2009 to 2017, Mr. Twum Boafo, a civil engineer and financial specialist, was the Ghana Free Zones Authority’s chief executive. He has an MBA in Finance and Investment Analysis from Stetson University in the United States, a BEng in Materials Engineering from the University of Wales, and an MSc in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

According to the presidency, the Mahama administration’s emphasis on bolstering national planning and financial supervision as part of its larger governance strategy is demonstrated by these appointments.
