Former Chief Of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Arnold Quainoo, Buried
Along with other St. Augustine’s College alums, President John Dramani Mahama, key government officials, and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin paid their final respects to the late Lt. Gen. Arnold Quainoo, the former Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
A large number of officials, military leaders, and loved ones gathered at the sad service, which was held at St. Catherine Catholic Church at Burma Camp, to honor the life and legacy of one of Ghana’s most illustrious soldiers.
Known as the “Buffalo Soldier,” Lt. Gen. Quainoo was the Chief of Defense Staff under former President Jerry John Rawlings during the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era. He was highly regarded for having played a crucial part in forming Ghana’s military history.
He also made significant contributions to regional peacekeeping efforts, notably serving as the first Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) commander during the Liberian civil war in 1990.
