President John Dramani Mahama has revoked all public service appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024, ordering government institutions to cancel them immediately.
In a letter dated February 10, 2025, and signed by Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, the government stated that the affected appointments “are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles.”
The letter, addressed to “all Heads of Government Institutions,” directed them to “take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments” and to “submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to this Office by 17th February, 2025.”
The directive, issued from Jubilee House, follows what it describes as “Government pronouncement in relation to near end of tenure appointments and recruitments.” It reinforces the administration’s stance that last-minute hires in the public service should be reviewed and, where necessary, revoked.
The government has emphasized the need for compliance, stating, “Your cooperation in this matter is highly appreciated.”
With the February 17 deadline approaching, public institutions are expected to act swiftly. The decision is likely to generate reactions from affected individuals and political stakeholders as the revocation process unfolds.
