GFA Selects Kim Björkegren As Black Queens’ Head Coach

Kim Lars Bjorkegren, a Swedish coach, has been formally named the new head coach of the Black Queens by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

After her contract with the GFA expired, Nora Häuptle took over as head coach of Zambia’s Copper Queens. Bjorkegren, 43, has signed a two-year contract to replace Häuptle.

During his unveiling, Bjorkegren spoke about his dedication to building the team and making sure they succeed.

The most important aspect of my job is to visit all the players, watch games, and help them improve,” he stated.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but the most important thing for me, the staff, and the players is to work hard every single day to ensure success sooner or later.”

He also emphasized Ghana’s wealth of football talent, expressing confidence in both short-term and long-term progress.

“I see so much talent in this country, so I am sure that, in the short term, we have the potential to be successful. In the long term, I can guarantee that we will be successful.”

Bjorkegren’s first assignment will be a friendly match against Morocco on February 21, as part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July.

The Black Queens will compete in Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.
