Three Convicted, Sentenced To 50 Years For Failed Robbery

The Assin-Kyerewere Circuit Court has jailed a Nigerian national and two Ghanaians to a combined 50 years in prison for attempting to rob Wawase-Semanhyia in the Assin North District.
The defendants, Mohammed Baba, 38, a Nigerian beautician; Francis Baidoo, 30, a driver; and Wisdom Aleki, 24, a tricycle rider, entered not guilty pleas but were ultimately convicted guilty.
The police are pursuing Francis Larbi, the fourth suspect, who is currently on the run.
The court, which was presided over by Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, sentenced Baba to 20 years in prison for conspiracy to conduct a crime, causing hurt, and attempted robbery, while Baidoo and Aleki received 15 years apiece.
Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo, the prosecutor, stated that the inmates intended to rob Emmanuel Obese, a clerk who purchases cocoa, at Wawase-Semanhyia on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
The prosecutor stated that they would carry out their plot in Wawase-Semanhyia after renting a Toyota Vitz urban vehicle from Accra Mall.
in around one in the morning, the prisoners, armed with a short gun and other offensive weapons, arrived in Wawase-Semanhyia. But when a witness saw them and sounded the alarm, their scheme was thwarted.
The convicts fled into the bush, but the community quickly organized a manhunt, leading to the arrest of the three, while Larbi escaped.
During the manhunt, Baba and Baidoo attacked commuters, inflicted knife wounds on them, and robbed them, but they were eventually overpowered and arrested.
