1,115 Gallons Of Smuggled Cocoa Beans Confiscated By Immigration Officers

Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) stationed at the Akanu Sector Command, with cooperation from the Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division, have apprehended a truck filled with smuggled cocoa beans.
Acting on intelligence, the authorities waylaid the truck with registration number AS 2103-W, driven by one Ibrahim Fatawu, at the Ave-Havi border checkpoint. 1,115 gallons of cocoa beans were discovered hidden inside the car, purportedly being trafficked to Togo.
This was said in a press release that was copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Sunday and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration in charge of Public Relations, Michael Amoako-Atta.
“The Ghana Immigration Service is hereby issuing a caution to all would-be smugglers to desist from such activity since it negatively affects Ghana’s economy and also leads to loss of revenue to the Government,” the statement read.
The Service also commended members of the border community for their collaboration and support in protecting Ghana’s borders.
