On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025, DWM has extended heartfelt congratulations to women across the globe, particularly Ghanaian women, recognising their resilience, strength, and achievements.

A statement issued by DWM said this year’s theme of “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality,” underscores the need for immediate and sustained efforts to close the gender gap.

The statement signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, emphasised the urgency of this mission, referencing findings from the United Nations Global Gender Gap Report and the World Economic Forum’s 2024 report, which predict that at the current rate of progress, full gender equality will not be achieved until the year 2158—133 years from now, or roughly five generations away.

DWM acknowledged that while women have made significant strides, progress remains too slow.

The organisation expressed optimism that Ghana’s newly passed Affirmative Action Act 2024, along with strategic interventions from various stakeholders, will catalyze women’s empowerment and development.

The Act aims to dismantle systemic barriers that have historically hindered women’s advancement in Ghanaian society.

“Women’s progress should not take more than a century. We must take bold steps now to accelerate gender parity,” DWM stated.

DWM urged individuals, organisations, and institutions to actively work toward gender equality by:

Calling out stereotypes
Challenging discrimination
Questioning bias

The organisation reiterated its commitment to standing in solidarity with global bodies, grassroots groups, and philanthropic entities dedicated to advancing women’s rights.
