Mahama Picks Dr. Sodzi-Tettey As Acting CEO of National Vaccine Institute

Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey has been named by President John Mahama as the National Vaccine Institute’s (NVI) acting CEO, pending approval by the Board and the Public Services Commission.
Establishing institutional frameworks for vaccine research, development, and manufacture in Ghana is the responsibility of the NVI, which was established in May 2023.
Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey will be responsible for:
- Mobilizing resources and securing sustainable financing to achieve the Institute’s objectives.
- Developing local and international partnerships.
- Collaborating with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with manufacturing standards.
- Facilitating technology transfer agreements with vaccine developers and the pharmaceutical industry.
With 21 years of experience in district medical practice, national healthcare leadership, and international health projects, Dr. Sodzi-Tettey is a public health physician. He has spearheaded quality-improvement initiatives in over 200 Ghanaian public hospitals, greatly lowering avoidable infant mortality.
Prior to his appointment, he was the Vice President of Global Delivery at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in Boston, USA. In this role, he oversaw the organization’s operations, technical support, and strategic direction for its work throughout the Middle East and Africa.
